WH Chief of Staff: Trump’s Healthcare Plan to Be Rolled Out Before Election

President Donald Trump’s long-awaited healthcare plan will be rolled out before the Nov. 3 presidential election and will substantially lower health care costs “through executive action,” says White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

“It’s ready, we’ve been making a number of tweaks and modifications,” Meadows told reporters Tuesday at the White House, attributing the delay to a deeper examination of the plan’s legislative components.

Fox News reported on his comments.

“We’ve had to get very, very creative with executive powers to try to figure out what we can do to substantially affect the health care costs and bring it down through executive action,” Meadows said. “It’s more of an executive action with a legislative component that is more visionary.”

Trump has repeatedly promised to roll out a new plan to replace Obamacare. On July 19 he told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that he would sign a “full and complete healthcare plan” within two weeks and in August he promised to unveil the plan by the end of the month.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday said a wide array of people are working on the plan and listed elements like the telemedicine plan and drug importation EO.

“And, in aggregate, it’s going to be a very comprehensive strategy — one where we’re saving healthcare while Democrats are trying to take healthcare away,” she said during a press briefing.

“We’re making healthcare better and cheaper, guaranteeing protections for people with preexisting conditions, stopping surprise medical billing, increasing transparency, defending the right to keep your doctor and your plan, fighting lobbyists and special interests, and making healthier and making — finding cures to diseases.”
